Review

Scream 7 arrived in theaters February 27tth. It’s hard to believe the last installment (Scream 6) was in theaters just two years ago this month! This latest addition to the franchise came with much fanfare due to the return of Neve Campbell. She was not part of the last installment due to contract issues. The producers took care of her this time around with a nice $7 million payday and guess what happened? One week after release the movie has generated almost $75 million on a budget of $45 million…..thats what folks in Hollywood call a good bet.

This latest chapter starts with a walk down memory lane to remind viewers of some of the twists and turns the franchise has made over its 30-year history. Yes, we have had 3 decades of Scream. Throughout the 1hour and 54 minute run time you can expect some real whodunnit (proper spelling 😊) moments. The film doesn’t disappoint on the gore and stays true to its core slasher filled high intensity scenes where you are actually jumping in your seat at times.

Who knew the same guy who created Dawsons Creek (Kevin Williamson) could also direct such a fun slasher film franchise. He has been a part of 6/7 Scream films either as executive producer or director and, in this version, he serves as both. I would say he deserves both paychecks for a job well done.

Final Thoughts

The movie hits the mark. Viewers should be pleased with the overall presentation. I would highly recommend seeing it on the big screen versus at home viewing just for the pure cinematic value factor and Dolby surround sound experience. Solid performances from Neve Campbell, Anna Camp and Courtney Cox with balanced direction and a light story line filled with more than a few laugh out loud moments. Enjoy,
