Review

I was really excited to see the new film The Uprising directed by Paul Greengrass, starring Andrew Garfield. Unfortunately my excitement slowly turned to disappointment as the film unfolded.....

Actors Thomasin McKenzie, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston and Andrew Garfield attend a premiere for the film Viewers will remember Greengrass's notable previous work on the Jason Bourne series, he directed three of those films. Along with United 93 (timely viewing now with our 25 year remembrance of 9/11). He also directed Captain Phillips which was a stellar film with Tom Hanks in 2013.

The Uprising started with a bang but devolved into a chaotic and hard to follow mess of a storyline combined with hard to understand accented dialogue. If possible, see this film with subtitles, although the majority of the dialogue is in English, it feels like archaic English due to the historical timeline in which it is set 1391 to be exact.

Film Director Paul Greengrass on set with Actor Cosmo Jarvis

You may remember Director Greengrass made his mark on film by using mostly hand held cameras for up close action scenes. He does not stray from this signature filming style here and that does add some vitality to the film which holds your attention. Problem is the film ultimately doesn't deliver on the goods and you leave the theater asking, "What just happened"?

Final Thoughts

Save your money on this one and view at home (with subtitles!!!)
